Measuring Guide
Getting the right measurements is the most important step in ordering custom blinds. Because every BlindScene product is made specifically for your windows, accurate measurements are essential. Please measure carefully before placing your order, as custom products cannot be resized or returned due to incorrect measurements.
Before You Begin
You'll need:
- A steel measuring tape (recommended)
- Pencil and paper or your phone to record measurements
- A step stool or ladder if needed
Do not use a cloth sewing tape, as it can stretch and result in inaccurate measurements.
Always measure in inches and record your measurements to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Inside Mount vs. Outside Mount
Inside Mount
An inside mount fits inside the window frame for a clean, built-in appearance.
Before ordering, make sure your window frame has enough depth to accommodate your chosen blind style.
Measure:
- Width at the top, middle, and bottom of the window opening.
- Height on the left, center, and right side of the opening.
Use the smallest width and the largest height when placing your order.
Outside Mount
An outside mount is installed on the wall or trim surrounding the window. This option is ideal when:
- Your window frame isn't deep enough.
- You want better light control and privacy.
- You'd like the window to appear larger.
Measure the area you want the blind to cover.
For best coverage, we recommend adding approximately:
- 2 to 3 inches to the width
- 2 to 4 inches to the height
This helps reduce light gaps around the edges.
Measuring Standard Windows
Measure each window individually.
Even windows that appear identical can vary by as much as half an inch.
Do not assume multiple windows are the same size.
Measuring Sliding Glass Doors
Measure the full width and height of the area you want the vertical blind or roller shade to cover.
Consider how far you want the blind to extend beyond the opening for maximum privacy and light control.
